Guide

Three emails that bring the cart back, without fake urgency

Ema, a Kailiniai hero

For this guide and its prompts we recommend:

  • Shopify sends the three reminder emails automatically. 3-day free trial · €1/month for the first 3 months on most plans (source)
  • Fotor removes the background from the product photo. Free plan (source)

Offers checked 21 Oct 2026

You can now win back carts without fake urgency.

A three-email abandoned-cart flow (plus an optional SMS for buyers who opted in) drafted, checked for claims and switched on.

What you need

Sandra, a Kailiniai hero
  • Your store's abandoned-checkout email automation
  • A clean image of each main product
  • Any AI chat assistant
  • An SMS or e-commerce email automation tool, only if you want SMS
  • ShopifyA working store with checkoutTrial
  • FotorClean, sharp photos without a reshootFree plan

Steps

  1. Give each email one job

Email one is a plain reminder with the product and a link back. Email two answers the most common doubt (size, delivery, returns). Email three offers help: reply to this email or contact us. A discount is optional and only if it is real.

  2. Draft them with honest rules

Tell the assistant what is not allowed: no countdowns, no 'only 2 left' unless your stock really says so, no discount you will not honour, no pressure words.

    Weak

Hurry, your cart expires in 10 minutes and only 2 are left.

    Better

You left the linen apron in your cart. It is still there if you want it. Questions about size or delivery? Just reply to this email.

  3. Use a clean product image

Show the product on a plain background so the email looks like your store. If you add a discount image, it must show the real discount and its real end date.

  4. SMS or WhatsApp only for people who opted in

A text message is personal. Send it only to buyers who clearly agreed to receive messages, and give an easy way to stop. Check consent rules with your local authority.

  5. Check claims, timing and results

Before you switch the flow on, list every claim and check it. Choose sensible gaps between the emails. After a few weeks, look at your store's reports and change one email at a time.

The full instruction

Copy it into any AI chat assistant and change only the first line.

Change only this line: PRODUCT = [linen bed sheets]

You help me write an honest three-email abandoned-cart flow for my store that sells my PRODUCT.

Before you write, ask me one question at a time: the doubts buyers ask about most, the facts I can prove (delivery time, returns policy, materials), and whether I have a real discount with its real end date. If I say I have none, use no discount.

Write three emails, each with a subject line of at most 8 words and a body of at most 90 words:
1. A plain reminder with the product and a link back.
2. An answer to the most common doubt, using only my facts.
3. An offer of help (reply or contact us), plus the real discount only if I gave one.

Rules: no countdown timers, no stock levels, no "last chance", no pressure words, no exclamation marks. If you need a fact I did not give, write [FACT?].
After the emails, list every claim and the fact it is based on.

Start with email 1.

What you end up with

A three-email flow that reminds, answers and helps, with every claim checked and no pressure you would not use face to face.

Common mistakes

  • Adding a countdown or a stock warning that is not true.
  • Sending SMS or WhatsApp messages to people who never opted in.
  • Offering a discount in the email that the checkout does not apply.

Processes that need more than one tool

Thomas, a Kailiniai hero

Each process below uses several tools, each for the job it does best. Any AI chat assistant works where one is named.

  1. Draft the three emails

Tools, in order: any AI chat assistant → Shopify

    1. Ask the chat assistant for three emails with the honest rules: no countdowns, no invented stock, only real discounts.
    2. Paste them into the abandoned-checkout automation in Shopify.

    The prompt for this process

Write three honest abandoned-cart emails for my Shopify store.

    What I sell: [products]
The doubt buyers ask about most: [e.g. size, delivery]
Facts I can prove: [delivery time, returns policy]
A real discount: [amount and real end date, or "none"]

Email 1 reminds, email 2 answers the doubt, email 3 offers help. Each has a subject of at most 8 words and a body of at most 90 words. No countdowns, no stock levels, no "last chance", no pressure words. Write [FACT?] where you need a fact I did not give.

    Start with email 1.

  2. Product image for the email

Tools, in order: Fotor → Shopify

    1. Remove the background from the main product photo in Fotor.
    2. Use the clean image in the Shopify email so it looks like your store.

    The prompt for this process

I am preparing the product image for my abandoned-cart email: background removed in Fotor, placed in a Shopify email.

    Product: [name, real colour]
Discount in the email: [real amount and end date, or "none"]

Write the image alt text (at most 12 words) and one line of text under the image. If there is a discount, write the exact discount line using only the amount and date above; if there is none, make sure nothing suggests one.

    Start with the alt text.

  3. SMS or WhatsApp for buyers who opted in

Tools, in order: Shopify → an SMS and e-commerce email automation tool

    1. Check in Shopify which buyers clearly agreed to receive text messages.
    2. Send the short reminder only to them from an SMS automation tool, with an easy way to stop.

    The prompt for this process

Write one short text message for buyers who left their cart and clearly agreed to receive texts from my store.

    Store name: [name]
Product left in the cart: [name or "your item"]
How to stop messages: [e.g. reply STOP]

Write 2 versions of at most 160 characters each. Each says who it is from, what was left, a link [LINK?] and how to stop messages. No urgency, no stock levels, no discount unless I give a real one: [discount or "none"].

    Start with version 1.

  4. Check claims, timing and results

Tools, in order: a spreadsheet → Shopify

    1. List every claim and the gap between emails in a spreadsheet and check each one.
    2. After a few weeks, read the Shopify reports and change one email at a time.

    The prompt for this process

Help me review my abandoned-cart flow.

    The three emails: [paste]
Gaps between them: [e.g. a few hours, one day, three days]
What my store reports show for each email: [paste the figures I have]

First list every claim in the emails and mark the ones I must prove. Then, using only the figures I pasted, say which single email to change first and why. Do not guess figures I did not give.

    Start with the claim list.
