System prompt
A system prompt is a standing instruction given to an AI model before the conversation starts, which sets its role, tone and rules.
What it means in practice
It shapes every answer in the chat, so put the rules you always want there. It is not a security lock, because clever input can still push a model to ignore it.
Example
A line such as: you are a polite support assistant, answer only from the pasted help pages and say when you do not know.
