Open-source model
An open-source model is an AI model whose files are shared so that others can download, run and often adapt it under a stated licence.
What it means in practice
It can run on your own computer, which helps with privacy and control. Licences differ and some limit commercial use, so read the one that comes with the model.
Example
A language model you download and run on a laptop without sending text to anyone.
